How to release pledged gold from a bank or NBFC and sell it
Gold stuck in a loan? Step-by-step guide to closing a gold loan in Kurnool, getting pledged gold released and working out the balance, with examples.
By Value Money Gold, Kurnool · Updated
When interest keeps adding up on a gold loan, or you need the money locked inside it, selling the pledged gold can be the simplest way out. The loan is settled first, the gold is released, and you receive whatever is left after the settlement.
When this makes sense
- Interest on the loan is growing faster than you can repay it.
- You have received a renewal or auction notice from the lender.
- Your gold is worth clearly more than what you owe, and you need that difference in cash.

- Gold loan receipt, pledge slip or loan account number
- Name and branch of the bank, NBFC or pawn broker
- A recent statement of the outstanding amount, if you have one
- A UPI ID or UPI-linked mobile number for receiving the balance
How the loan closure amount is worked out
The lender works out the closure amount on the day the loan is closed: the principal, interest up to that day, and any charges in your loan terms, such as penal interest or notice charges. Interest keeps running until closure, so this figure is often higher than an older statement.
Ask the lender branch for the exact closure amount on the day. Once the loan is paid off, the lender releases the gold and gives a closure receipt. Keep it, and check later that the loan shows as closed.
Two illustrative examples
| Example A: gold worth more than the loan | Example B: gold worth less than the loan | |
|---|---|---|
| Value of the released gold | ₹2,40,000 | ₹1,20,000 |
| Loan closure amount on the day | ₹1,50,000 | ₹1,35,000 |
| Result | ₹90,000 balance paid to you | ₹15,000 short: selling does not clear the loan |
Made-up round numbers to show the arithmetic, not a real customer, today’s rate or our buying rate. In Example B the shortfall would have to be paid to close the loan, or you could keep the loan running. Either way, you see both figures before anything is done.
What you receive
Balance paid to you = value of the released gold − amount paid to settle the loan. We show you both figures before anything is finalised, and you should always collect the lender’s loan closure receipt.
Lender branches have their own timings and closure steps, so call us before you visit and we will tell you what to expect.
